Fundamentally reworking network infrastructure to accommodate the growth of cloud, edge computing, and IoT
Please tell us how Graphiant was founded.
I started working at Cisco in 1993, two years after the Internet was commercialized, and I started working on the backbone of the Internet. That means I’ve been involved with the Internet since 1993 and have witnessed its growth.
Around 2000, I was part of a team at Cisco that designed and built MPLS networks. MPLS networks were used by a wide range of companies, but as data volume increased, the cost of MPLS became very expensive.
With the idea that companies needed lower-cost office connectivity with Internet-class agility, I founded Viptela in 2012 to develop network products to replace MPLS, and the SD-WAN journey began. Viptela was acquired by Cisco in 2017, but at the time, the distribution of workloads and the increasing complexity of networks were causing connectivity challenges. However, no one was looking at the fundamental infrastructure and solutions.
Therefore, I felt the need to fix the network infrastructure that connects the cloud, edge computers, and IoT, and founded Graphiant in 2020. Graphiant is dedicated to creating a reliable, secure, business-class Internet.
